Biography:
Bucks Fizz burst onto the music scene and into the nation's heart by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981
with "Making Your Mind Up". They were originally the brandchild of Jill Shirley and Nichola Martin who formed
the band especially for the contest. The first line-up was: Jay Aston, Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker, Bobby G., Shelly Preston. The success of "Making Your Mind Up", a nr 1 for three weeks, ensured that the band stayed together rather then returning to their former profession as a session singers. That same year they released the singles "Piece of the Action" and "One of those Nights" and a debut album "Bucks Fizz" which were all TOP 20 hits. An even more successful year followed in 1982 with two nr 1's with the "Land of Make Believe" and "My Camera Never Lies" and a Top 10 hit with "Now Those Days Are Gone" followed by their 2nd album "Are You Ready" which reached nr 10. 1983 and 1984 saw band having a string of hits with "If You Can't Stand The Heat", "Run For Your Life", "Talking In Your Sleep", "London Town" and "Golden Days" and a Greatest Hits compilation album.
Disaster struck in December 1984 when Bucks Fizz tour bus crashed in icy conditions and the group and entourage suffered various degrees of injury. Most seriously injured was Mike Nolan who was taken to hospital comatosed with feared brain damage. Thankfully he fought his way back to recovery and back to performing.
The band carried on successfully recording and also saw a line-up change when Jay Aston left the group.
Nowadays Bucks Fizz in the changed lineup are still performing!
Bobby, Heidi, Wayne and Nikki - aka Bucks Fizz, are looking forward to their continuing hectic schedule of live shows. Once again as the boys rip off the girls' skirts in 'Making Your Mind Up', audiences old and new will continue to appreciate the charm and vitality first displayed by Bucks Fizz over two decades ago...
